As part of his inspection tour of petroleum refining projects in Alexandria, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) to review its latest development, modernization, and expansion works. The upgrades have increased the refinery’s operating capacity to 160,000 barrels per day, reinforcing its position as one of the largest refineries in the Middle East and a cornerstone in meeting Egypt’s petroleum product demand.

During his tour, the minister examined the new and upgraded production units along with the main control room. MIDOR Chairman, Dr. Amr Lotfy, and the technical team provided an overview of production rates and operational performance following the recent expansions. Lotfy highlighted that the refinery is now capable of producing fuels that meet European “Euro 5” standards.

The chairman also reviewed the refinery’s operational and financial performance, noting that MIDOR currently supplies between 17% and 20% of Egypt’s diesel and gasoline consumption. The minister met with various teams on-site, including those from MIDOR and partnering companies such as EPROM, EMC, Petromaint, ENPPI, and Petrojet, to acknowledge their role in the success of the project.

The visit was attended by Eng. Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, alongside several senior leaders from the petroleum sector.
