Egypt Hosts the 18th ISLD World Congress for Laser Dentistry

With remarkable success as a medical international congress held in Egypt, this week witnessed the opening of the 18th ISLD world congress (International Society for Laser Dentistry), in Marriot Hotel, Cairo.  The congress represents the biggest dental laser society worldwide. The congress is held every two years in a different hosting country, this time Egypt was the ultimate choice.  After 2 years of   postponement, due to COVID 19 pandemic, the congress was held in cooperation with MIU (Misr International University).

Assistant Professor of Orthodontics MIU University & Organizing Chairman of 18th ISLD world congress Youssef Sedky, explains that the main aim behind the congress is to spread the dental laser technology through presenting the latest publications, academic research published in scientific journals and getting acquainted with the latest high Tech laser dental machines through the exhibition and the trade show that the congress presents. 16 exhibitors/sponsors participated in the congress, which was a great chance to market their products and position themselves in front of 1000 attendees from distinct countries.

31 keynote speakers along with 59 oral speakers presented their lectures throughout the 3 days of the congress; total number of lectures were 90 lectures. The speakers were from 23 countries, from Bahrain, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom, Morocco, Poland and more. Speakers from east Europe, Ukraine and Croatia, could not join due to the unstable political situation of the Russian war.

Sedky, highlights that the congress’s organizing committee set a number of recommendations;

First; Scientific research related to dentistry has developed over the last few years showing the efficiency of laser applications which led to optimizing treatment outcomes.

Second; Laser impact is quite significant within the different specialties of dentistry as, root canal treatment, orthodontics, implantology, and soft tissue management.

Third, More research is needed to prove the beneficial evidence of laser, in photobiomodulation.
