Tarek Al-Malla Minister of Petroleum: 34 cities & villages witnessed natural gas delivery for the first time in 2016

Tarek Al-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, asserted that the national project of providing Egyptian houses with natural gas is considered to be one of the strategic projects and a main pillar of the government’s plan to develop its services. The national project of natural gas is an effective solution to rationalize fuel consumption which contributes to relive the burdens off Egypt’s budget in supporting gas pipes.

Al-Molla has received a report from Eng. Gamal Higazy, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company Vice-President; The report indicates the total amount of natural gas that was delivered to 25 governorates in 2015/16. Natural gas was delivered to 715 thousand housing units at a cost of EGP 1.5bn, in which 130 thousand housing units delivery were incurred by the Ministry of Finance, as against 710 thousand housing units last year. The previous delivery average is the highest since the activity’s launch in 1981. The report has also indicated the 14 companies which delivered natural gas services; 6 among these companies were subsidiary to Petroleum sector and have implemented 64 per cent of the project. The other 8 companies, subsidiary to the private sector, have implemented 36 per cent of the project.

Natural gas service was delivered to 34 cities and villages which witnessed such delivery for the first time in this year, according to the report. Consequently, the number of housing units provided with gas increases to become 7.6 million housing units since the project’s launch.
