Sudan: Israel will never be a member of the African Union

The 29th ordinary session of the African Union’s executive board is to be held today; ministers of foreign affairs and appointed officials will report different ministerial meetings to the appointed technical committees. These committees were organised by African Union during the last 6 months. Moreover, it is expected to hold the 27th ordinary session of African Union countries’ presidents summit on 17 and 18 July 2016. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, chairman of African Union, along with Erastus Mwencha, vice chairman of African Union and other 8 mandators will be present in the expected summit.
African Union is expected to launch its prominent project of a e-visa as part of 2063 Africa’s agenda, to facilitate travelling around the continence. The project aims at boosting African trade and developing economy and society.
On the other hand, Ramtane Lamamra, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, asserted that the meeting will set the road map for the ministerial committee to act upon its vision. This vision was approved by African countries’ presidents to boost Africa’s development programme, put an end to struggles and crises and maintain security and stability.
Antony Marwing, African Union Mandator, stated the approval of Africa decolonization’s agenda, urging other countries to focus on developing society and economy.
Netumba Nandi Ndettoa, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, said that the committee has significant projects since its establishment. She called for developing Africa’s economy and praising African countries which approved the agenda. Ndettoa describes the agenda as ”explicit and brief paper”.
Tomy Alwindo, Zambia’s Minister of Planning, urges to regain the African nationalism in order to cooperate in moving Africa forward. He added that security and stability pave the way for 2063 agenda’s implementation. It is preferable if African countries would support the African market instead of foreign markets.
Ibrahim Ghandour, Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that some countries demand Israel’s membership in the African Union; however, this is not even legal and it is just a media show. ”Israel is not an African country.
Non-African countries are not allowed to join the African Union, according to its codes since it was established in 1963.”, he added. Answering the question of whether Sudan could be a member of the union if Israel joins it, Ghandour stated ”We believe that if Israel wants to live in peace, it has to give Palestinians all their rights, along with their right to have their own independent state and capital.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, was able to gain Ethiopia’s support in the African Union to have the observer status. Mengistu Haile Mariam, Ethiopian Prime Minister, believes that Israel is worthy of this support as it exerts efforts in many African countries, according to a France 24 channel. ”We want Israel to be a member of African Union”, he added.
Netanyahu has gained the support of Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zambia and Malawi to join the African Union. Israel was an observer member of Organisation of African Unity in 2002; this organisation is an international organisation consisting of 25 African countries, according to France 24 channel.
