Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) called on all consumers to review the value of purchase bills and remain cautious when dealing with auto companies. This warning follows several complaints that when buying cars they received invoices for less than what they actually paid.

Within the framework of cooperation between all government institutions and efforts to control market and protect both citizens and state’s rights, necessary legal measures were adopted against the companies involved in such acts, according to CPA’s Chairman Atef Yacoub. Moreover, the complaints were referred to the Egyptian Tax Authority. A number of companies, working inside Egypt, were busted on the above mentioned accusations, which are: Auto Samir Rayan (Nasr City), Elmasria for Cars Company (Maadi Corniche), B Auto (Sheraton), National Motors (Nasr City), and Egyptian for Engineering Studies (6th of October).

These companies mislead consumers and evaded taxes by giving them invoices with values less than what they paid, which harms their rights and interests, especially if a flaw showed in the bought car. In this case, customers will only get back the sum written on the invoice. Moreover, through these illegal acts companies pay tax dues less than what they are supposed to, which harms the state’s revenues.

By committing such actions, companies have violated Article 5 of Law No. 67 of the year 2006, and Article 15 of its executive regulation.

Yacoub called on citizens to cooperate with the agency and help it better control the market by reporting any violations or complaints.
