Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will travel for the first time as Egypt’s president to the UK on Thursday to meet British Prime Minister David Cameron to discuss regional and international issues. British ambassador to Egypt John Casson announced on Monday that the pair would discuss security issues in the Middle East such as the latest developments in Syria, Libya and Yemen. In September, Egypt’s defence chief of staff, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, visited London where he and senior British military officials discussed the role the UK can play in supporting Egypt in effective counter-terrorism work, and how to cooperate to secure a stable future for Libya.
El-Sisi will also discuss with Cameron opportunities to strengthen economic and political ties between the two countries as well as the possibility of bolstering trade industries. Casson stressed that the UK is Egypt’s largest investor, with $25 billion worth of investments in the country since 2010.
