Al-Babtain Power and Telecommunication Company’s Finance Director Dr. Adel Zayed said Egypt has won three bids; one to manufacture power pylons worth EGP57 million, part of Samalout line, currently being implemented at costs reaching EGP100 million, and El-Sewedy power stations worth EGP150 million, to be carried out in December.
The Saudi company operates in Egypt in the fields of power and telecommunication and has three production lines on the local market, namely the high power and communication pylons, street lamp post production (monopole and high mast).
He explained in exclusive statements to The Middle East Observer that the main client of the company is the Egyptian Company for Electricity Transfer of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy. The lamp posts are being supplied to companies of both the public and the private sector as part of the activity of contractors and roads, such as the Arab Contractors Company and Eject Company.
He added that the company plans to engage in a new activity in the Egyptian market, namely the manufacturing of the desert air conditioner. The factory will be established at investment costs not yet defined.
He pointed out that the size of Al-Babtain’s investments in Egypt amounts to around EGP250 million, and the company’s sales take place on the Egyptian market and for export. The company’s sales last year hit EGP250 million, 80 per cent of which represent exports, mainly to Algeria, Ethiopia, Russia and Morocco.
He explained that the company’s activity in the field of energy is manufacturing power transmission towers that transmit electricity to distribution stations. The electricity and energy projects which are of interest to the Egyptian government made the company join tenders put forward by the Ministry of Electricity.
He said the company has made expansions at its factory in 6th of October City, adding 18,000 square metres to the 260-square-metre factory and moving the pylon factory to become independent. The company also expanded the pylon factory, he said.
He pointed out that the company acquires 75 per cent of the supply business presented by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, adding that in case of any further expansion by the Egyptian government in the field of electricity and energy, the company will increase its investments to keep pace with them.
