The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity (EME) is currently discussing with a delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Electricity (SME) offers of Egyptian-Saudi electricity linkage project tender after the project consultant has prepared the tender specifications.
The EME declared that the project aims at sharing 3,000 megawatts of electricity between the two countries in order to benefit from electrical load variation due to the fact that Saudi peaks in the afternoon while Egypt peaks after sunset, which would improve performance and stability of the electricity grid in both countries.
It should be noted that investments of 23 companies in Sinai Peninsula are worth 172 million and 42 thousand US dollars out of total 515 million and 67 thousand US dollars, however, these investments are not all Saudi investments in Egypt. South Sinai governorate ranks ninth among other governorates as 20 Saudi companies invest in this governorate with an amount of 140 million and 73 thousand US dollars out of an issue capital of 450 million and 38 thousand US dollars.
North Sinai governorate ranks 16th as only 3 companies invest in this governorate with an amount of 31 million and 69 thousand US dollars out of an issue capital of 65 million and 29 thousand US dollars.The Chancellor Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said that Egypt would not interfere in Arab countries’ relations with other countries even if those countries took negative attitudes towards Egypt and its people.
Abu Zeid said, in response to a question for the Middle East News Agency on the purpose of UAE Foreign Minister’s visit to Turkey, that Egypt has full confidence in attitudes of Arab countries in their relations with other countries and that they would definitely foster Egyptian interests.
The Saudi Ambassador to Cairo, Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Qattan extended his condolences to martyrs of the terrorist attack in Sinai on his twitter account saying: We extend our heartfelt condolences to our sisterly Egypt over Sinai innocent martyrs.
