Former enemies cooperate for better future

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh said on Monday that Iran and Oman will cooperate in selling oil products. Zangeneh made the remarks following his meeting with Oman Oil Minister Mohammad bin Hamad al-Rumhy.

Zangeneh told reporters that construction of Iran’s gas export pipeline was on the agenda of negotiations today and the two sides underlined speeding up the project. He said that a feasibility study for the pipeline project has started in parallel with a study to speed up the construction and financing of the project. Zangeneh said that Omani government is interested in cooperation with Iran in the field of development of oil and gas projects and that Iran welcomes the proposal and is hopeful the cooperation with Omani companies will expand. Simultaneously with the visit of the Omani minister to Tehran, a contract for a feasibility study for the construction of the gas pipeline was signed by Iranian companies. Upon the contract, a study on the marine sector of the gas export pipeline was commissioned by the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company and the contract was signed between the Managing Director of Iran’s National Gas Export Company, the Managing Director of IOEC and the Director General for planning and project assessment of Oman Oil and Gas Ministry Saif bin Hamad al-Salmani. A study on the land sector of gas export was undertaken by Pars Consultant Engineering Company and its contract was signed. According to the agreement, some 28 million cubic meters of gas are due to be exported to Oman through the Persian Gulf pipeline for 15 years.

The two governments reached an agreement in 2014 about the construction of the pipeline. The contract is worth around $60 billion.
