President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Møller-Maersk Group, to strengthen Egypt’s strategic partnership with the global shipping leader. The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chief Admiral Osama Rabie, and Maersk MENA Representative Hany El Nady, highlighted Egypt’s growing role as a regional logistics and green-fuel hub.
El-Sisi praised Maersk’s ongoing cooperation with the SCA, particularly its work on expanding the Suez Canal Container Terminal at East Port Said and exploring green-fuel production for ships, which would reinforce Egypt’s position as a global maritime center. The President reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining a favourable investment climate and pledged state support to overcome any operational challenges Maersk may face.
Maersk’s chairman thanked El-Sisi for Egypt’s diplomatic role in securing the Gaza cease-fire and hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, saying regional stability would benefit Red Sea shipping routes. He expressed Maersk’s readiness to support Egypt’s reconstruction efforts in Gaza, noting that East Port Said could serve as a key logistics gateway.
Uggla emphasized Maersk’s confidence in Egypt’s economic stability and praised the SCA’s infrastructure upgrades that enable Egypt to become a leading regional supplier of green marine fuel. The discussions also covered cooperation in training, logistics, container handling, and maritime services. Admiral Rabie confirmed the SCA’s plans to expand joint projects with Maersk to boost national revenues and Egypt’s standing as a global shipping hub.
Analysts note that the talks align with Maersk’s wider decarbonization strategy and Egypt’s push to anchor the Suez Canal Economic Zone in global green supply chains. The partnership, they add, could position Egypt at the crossroads of post-war reconstruction and sustainable maritime trade — turning the canal from a transit corridor into a full-fledged logistics and energy ecosystem.
