Cairo, Egypt — Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi announced that the Sukari Gold Mine has produced 5.8 million ounces of gold since its operations commenced. During a recent tour, he praised Sukari as a model of modern mining investment, leveraging advanced exploration technologies to extend its production life.
The mine is projected to produce approximately 500,000 ounces of gold annually over the next few years. Minister Badawi emphasized the ministry’s commitment to increasing investment and fostering partnerships to make significant economic discoveries.
While inspecting the site, Badawi commended the workforce’s adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards and highlighted the inclusion of 61 women in production and administrative roles.
Martin Horgan, CEO of Centamin PLC, reiterated the company’s focus on enhancing production value at Sukari, which holds one of the world’s largest gold reserves. Mohamed Mahmoud, Chairman of Sukari Gold Mining Company, noted efforts to boost production while curbing costs.
The mine’s solar power station, with a 36-megawatt capacity and a 7.5-megawatt battery storage system, is the largest at a mining site, reducing annual fuel consumption by 22 million liters and cutting carbon emissions by 60,000 tons of CO2 equivalent.
Forecasted to remain a significant player in the mining sector, Sukari Gold Mine continues to set benchmarks for sustainable and profitable mining operations in Egypt.
