MIDOR Reaches Full Capacity, Boosting Domestic Fuel Supply

Must read

Egypt’s Middle East Oil Refinery Company (Midor) has reached full operational capacity, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced following the company’s general assembly meeting approving its 2025 results.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi described the refinery as a landmark industrial facility serving domestic and export markets, stating that operating at maximum capacity marks a qualitative leap for Egypt’s petroleum sector by increasing local refined product supply and reducing the country’s import bill.

According to company data presented at the meeting, Midor processed more than 49 million barrels of crude oil in 2025, up from 47 million barrels in 2024. Production of refined petroleum products rose to 6.6 million tons, compared with 6.1 million tons the previous year.

Kerosene processing was introduced for the first time, while exports of high-quality jet fuel continued, generating foreign currency revenues.

The refinery also maintains continuous environmental monitoring linked to the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, alongside upgraded wastewater treatment systems and integrated asset management to enhance operational efficiency.

Officials said Midor’s five-year plan includes new commercial initiatives to maximize product value, including a project to convert sulfur from refining operations into high-quality NPK fertilizer to support agriculture and food security.

The move is expected to strengthen Egypt’s energy balance, lower refined fuel imports, and improve foreign exchange inflows through higher-value petroleum exports.
