The new institutions have already seen significant interest, with over 60,000 students enrolled, demonstrating a robust demand for quality higher education. This surge in enrollment is part of a national trend, as Egypt has climbed four spots in the pre-university education rankings over the past three years, according to the Ministry of Education.
Cairo University, a leading institution in the country, was recently ranked 350th in the QS World University Rankings for 2025, showcasing the strides Egyptian universities are making on the global stage.
Aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030, these universities are tailoring their programs to incorporate cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. This focus aims to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in future-oriented sectors. “Our goal is to position Egyptian universities as hubs of innovation and excellence,” Ashour emphasized.
In a bold move to export its educational prowess, Egypt is also planning to establish branches of its national universities abroad. This strategy aims to bolster Egypt’s global educational footprint and attract international students, further enhancing its reputation as a regional leader in higher education.
Dr. Ahmed El-Khashab, a noted educational consultant, hailed the initiative as a transformative step for Egypt. “By expanding its network of national universities, Egypt is not only catering to local demand but also creating a platform for international collaboration and cultural exchange,” he remarked.
Currently, Egypt boasts a diverse higher education landscape with 116 universities, including public, private, national, technological, and foreign institutions. Together, they comprise over 1,079 faculties, contributing to a vibrant academic community.
