EU, Jordan to Hold Investment Conference in April Backed by €1.4bn

The European Union and Jordan will hold a high-level investment conference in Amman on April 21, as Brussels steps up economic diplomacy aimed at boosting growth and stability in the Middle East.

The conference will be attended by Ursula von der Leyen and King Abdullah II, EU officials said on Monday, underscoring the political importance of the event.

European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica and Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan said the forum would aim to strengthen ties between European and Jordanian companies and mobilise private investment.

The conference forms part of the EU–Jordan Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership signed last year and will focus on deploying €1.4 billion in EU-backed investment instruments between 2025 and 2027, within a broader €3 billion EU support package.

Projects expected to feature include the Aqaba–Amman Water Desalination Project, digital infrastructure such as the extension of the MEDUSA submarine cable, renewable energy initiatives, and transport links connected to the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor.

EU officials said Jordan’s stability, reform agenda and skilled workforce make it a key partner in the bloc’s regional economic strategy.
