Egypt and China took a new step toward expanding their cultural and cinematic cooperation with the launch of Chinese Film Week at Zamalek Cinema, opened by the screening of “The Lychee Road” by renowned Chinese filmmaker Da Peng. The event follows a high-level industry forum in Cairo, where nearly 50 Egyptian and Chinese filmmakers met to explore co-production opportunities, talent exchange, and broader collaboration in film development and distribution.
Mao Yu, Deputy Executive Director-General of the China Film Administration, highlighted that the long-standing cultural ties between the two civilizations make cinema a powerful platform for deeper people-to-people connection. He affirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Egypt on joint projects and new creative ventures.
From the Egyptian side, Ahmed Badawi, Chairman of the Egypt Film Commission, stressed that both countries have dynamic and complementary film industries. He described the film week as a practical starting point for structured cooperation and future shared productions.
The screenings will continue at the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo, featuring a selection of recent Chinese films, animations, and documentaries, presented in partnership with MAD Solutions, ORI Animation, and Chinese cultural authorities.
