Orascom Pyramids Targets Five Million Visitors as Giza Tourism Gains Momentum

Must read

Orascom Pyramids, the company responsible for developing and operating tourism services at the Giza Pyramids plateau and a subsidiary of Orascom Investment Holding, is aiming to significantly increase visitor numbers to the iconic archaeological site over the coming years, supported by fresh investments in infrastructure and sustainable transport.

According to statements by Amr Gazarine, the company is targeting an increase in annual visitors to the Giza Pyramids area to around five million, up from approximately 3.5 million visitors recorded by the end of its most recent full operating period. The growth strategy is closely linked to ongoing improvements in visitor experience, traffic management, and environmental sustainability.

Gazarine said Orascom Pyramids plans to inject between EGP 150 million and EGP 200 million in additional investments, with a particular focus on expanding the site’s green transport fleet and upgrading visitor services. The company has been rolling out electric and environmentally friendly vehicles as part of a broader effort to modernize access to the plateau while reducing congestion and emissions.

Visitor data from the trial operation phase shows strong momentum. Gazarine noted that visitor numbers rose by around 30% during the experimental operating period, while growth rates surged to between 60% and 65% in the final months of the year, reflecting a sharp pickup in demand. The acceleration coincided with rising international tourism flows and the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which has emerged as a major draw for cultural tourism in the area.

Industry observers see the Giza redevelopment as a critical pillar in Egypt’s broader tourism strategy, with the integration of modern services aimed at enhancing the global appeal of the Giza Pyramids while preserving their historical and environmental integrity. The improvements are designed to lengthen visitor stays, improve crowd flow, and encourage repeat visits.

Orascom Pyramids has emphasized that the project is not limited to increasing footfall, but also to reshaping the overall visitor journey—from entry points and transportation to on-site services—positioning Giza as a world-class heritage destination capable of absorbing higher volumes without compromising the site’s character.
