Governor Adel El-Naggar of Giza launched the ambitious Sofitel Legend Pyramids Giza project. This luxury venture is set to redefine hospitality standards in the region, with construction undertaken in collaboration with the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD).
Nestled in the prominent El-Remaya Square within the Haram district on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, the project is strategically located near the much-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum, opening on July 3. This five-star hotel, valued at $120 million, promises a blend of opulence with 302 rooms, luxury suites, and top-tier amenities including international restaurants, entertainment venues, banquet halls, a shopping mall, and expansive parking facilities.
This project is spearheaded by a robust partnership between Egyptian and Emirati private sectors, with ADFD contributing a substantial 84.28% of the project’s capital. During the inauguration, Governor El-Naggar emphasized the critical role of tourism in Egypt’s economic landscape. “Countries with far fewer tourism assets have successfully leveraged tourism to combat unemployment and drive economic growth,” he remarked. The governor highlighted the project’s potential to enhance Giza’s hospitality offerings, aligning with broader national tourism strategies aimed at transforming the region into a global tourist hub.
Tourism stands as one of Egypt’s main sources of foreign currency, complemented by remittances, Suez Canal revenues, and foreign direct investments. The country witnessed an impressive influx of 15.7 million tourists in 2024, generating $14.1 billion in revenue, surpassing the previous record of 14.9 million visitors in 2023.
In a bold move to further boost tourism, Egypt has crafted a national strategy targeting 30 million visitors by 2028. The government allocated EGP 50 billion in July 2023 to enhance the sector by developing new hotel accommodations, positioning Egypt as a premier global destination.
This landmark project, situated close to the iconic Giza Pyramids, is expected to draw global visitors and elevate Egypt’s luxury hospitality offerings. As Egypt advances its infrastructure and service quality, the Sofitel Legend Pyramids stands as a symbol of modernity meeting ancient heritage—a true embodiment of Egypt’s vibrant tourism future.
