North Korean forces were put on a high alert on Saturday in anticipation of launching a missile attack against the American bases in the Pacific.
The move comes in the wake of the US dispatch of two B2 bombers to the Korean peninsula in a serious escalation that might lead to a new war.
Korean leader Kim Jongun warned that in case the US made a reckless provocation, the North Korean forces will mercilessly fire at the US mainland and the US military bases in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Guam, and those in South Korea .
An increased movement of troops and vehicles at sites of long and medium range rockets were spotted in North Korea, a sign that it is readying for a rocket strike , Yonhap news agency reported
US Defense secretary Chuck Hagel said North Korea has to be aware that what it is doing is very serious and that the US seriously takes provocations coming from the North and will certainly answer back.
Kim signed the order for North Korea’s strategic rocket forces to be on standby to fire at US targets, saying it is time to settle accounts with the U.S. imperialists in view of the prevailing situation.
A South Korean official said North Korea’s launch sites to fire off mid – and long- range missiles have recently shown increased movement of vehicles and forces.
Another source said several vehicles were seen moving to the Tongchang – ri missile site on the western coast, in what seemed like preparations for testing its long –range missiles.
Last Saturday, the US sent two B2 bombers on training sorties over South Korea in what seemed to be a show of force by the US after repeated threats by North Korea.
China, North Korea’s only ally, called for defusing tension in Koreas peninsula, urging both Koreas to exert efforts to achieve a break through .
China made clear that peace and stability in the Korean peninsula would serve both countries.
Russia, on the other part, announced a state of emergency.
Relations between the two Koreas deteriorated following the third nuclear test of North Korea in February and after more international sanctions were slapped against Pyongyang.
After that North Korea announced that the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War in 1953 is no more valid and severed a military hot line with South Korea, increasing fears that it would launch unjustifiable attacks like the bloody ones that took place near the western maritime borders in 2010.
The situation is now very serious. The problem is not about North or South Korea. It is about the US that become the filling in a burger sandwich between them . For North Korea, the US is like the burger that needs to be grilled fresh while the US believes it has to protect the interests of its ally South Korea.
The super powers will not allow the sandwich with its entire hot beef filling be eaten and at the same time the eastern and western worlds will not wait for the grilling to be over.
Everyone is closely eyeing what is taking place on the Asian map.
