Minister Rania Al-Mashat, speaking at the conference, emphasized the initiative’s transformative role as a “pioneering model of innovative partnerships.” Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, this initiative has successfully united national institutions, development partners, UN organizations, civil society, and local authorities to drive localized climate action.
Since its inception, the initiative has attracted diverse participation from large enterprises, SMEs, and startups, underscoring Egypt’s steadfast commitment to sustainable development goals. The third edition alone witnessed over 5,700 project entries spanning crucial sectors, such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, waste recycling, water conservation, and emissions reduction. Following a thorough and transparent selection process, 354 projects reached the final round, with 18 ultimately distinguished for their groundbreaking contributions.
Minister Al-Mashat further highlighted the initiative’s broader impact beyond environmental benefits. It has significantly contributed to youth capacity-building, nurturing a culture of innovation and strengthening local engagement in climate action. These efforts have not only propelled local projects onto a global stage but also provided Egyptian companies with a platform to showcase their solutions at international forums like COP28 in the UAE and the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan.
The National Smart Green Initiative is setting new standards for climate-conscious development, fostering a landscape where innovation thrives and sustainable growth becomes the norm.
