Must read

Commercial International Bank (CIB) has been awarded Bank of the Year 2025 – Egypt by The Banker, in recognition of the lender’s accelerating expansion in factoring services and its growing portfolio of sustainable finance products aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises.

CIB’s factoring arm, the Commercial International Finance Company (CIFC), has emerged as one of the bank’s fastest-growing subsidiaries since its launch in early 2024. By the end of June 2025, CIFC’s portfolio had surpassed EGP 4 billion ($84.4 million), with outstanding balances reaching EGP 2.1 billion. The subsidiary is now preparing to broaden its offering through integrated supply chain finance solutions, targeting deeper penetration of Egypt’s corporate and SME sectors.

The bank’s sustainable lending initiatives have also gained momentum. In July 2024, CIB rolled out its Sustainable Finance Loan, a specialised product designed to help SMEs modernise fixed assets and invest in renewable energy and resource-efficiency upgrades. The facility was developed in partnership with the GIZ and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, and focuses on clients in the textile, plastics, and food and beverage industries.

Strengthening its commitment to SME financing, CIB signed a credit risk guarantee agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in November 2024. The arrangement covers 50% of the credit risk on a €50 million SME loan portfolio, providing additional support for businesses seeking expansion capital.

CIB’s recognition by The Banker highlights the bank’s ongoing efforts to diversify its financial solutions, enhance SME support, and advance sustainability-focused lending across Egypt’s private sector.
