CAIRO — Egypt’s El Araby Group plans to invest $480 million over the next five years to expand its home appliance manufacturing operations in New Quesna Industrial City in Menoufia governorate, as part of a broader push to strengthen domestic industrial production and boost exports.
The expansion aims to increase manufacturing capacity and raise the local content ratio in several product lines to as much as 90 percent, supporting Egypt’s strategy to localize key industries and reduce reliance on imported components.
According to the Ministry of Industry, the investment aligns with the country’s National Industrial Strategy, which seeks to raise the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP from around 14 percent to 20 percent by 2030 while expanding exports and attracting higher levels of foreign investment.
El Araby plans to leverage its research and development centres to collaborate with government-backed initiatives linking universities, research institutions, and the private sector to accelerate industrial innovation, including the application of artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing technologies. The program is coordinated between the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC).
Founded in 1964, El Araby Group is one of Egypt’s largest family-owned industrial conglomerates, producing and distributing consumer electronics and home appliances across more than 40 product categories through partnerships with global brands including Sharp, Toshiba, and Sony.
The expansion comes as Egypt’s home appliance market continues to grow. According to estimates cited by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre, the sector was valued at approximately $3.9 billion in 2025, with projections indicating it could reach $5.1 billion by 2031, reflecting steady demand growth and increased investment in local manufacturing.
Industry officials say expanding domestic production capacity could position Egypt as a regional manufacturing hub for home appliances, supplying markets across the Middle East and Africa while strengthening the country’s export-oriented industrial base.
