Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, announced that international partners in the Western Desert are intensifying exploration and production to unlock new reserves of crude oil and natural gas. Speaking at the General Assembly of Badr El Din Petroleum Company to approve its 2024/2025 results, the Minister highlighted the company’s integrated plan, which includes reactivating idle wells, enhancing water flow, utilizing older exploration wells, and improving the performance of advanced drilling equipment. He added that re-evaluating seismic surveys from 2017 is expected to identify further reserves.
The Minister praised Badr El Din’s performance in safety, environmental protection, and social responsibility, noting its contribution to Egypt’s energy sustainability. Company Chairman Eng. Ashraf Abdel Gawad reported that average production reached 53,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the fiscal year. He added that 18 new wells were drilled alongside 79 repair and re-completion operations, with total investments amounting to $183 million.
Representatives of Kiron and Capricorn Energy, Badr El Din’s international partners, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Egypt’s production targets. They stressed that ongoing re-analysis of seismic data will be key to expanding proven reserves and maintaining the upward momentum in Western Desert output.
