The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has inked a $20 million deal with Şirikçioğlu, a leading Turkish denim yarn and fabric manufacturer, to establish a state-of-the-art denim factory in Qantara West. This development not only marks the 25th project in the burgeoning industrial area but also signals a promising era of economic synergy between Turkey and Egypt.
Founded in 1997, Şirikçioğlu has carved a niche in the global market, supplying high-quality denim to numerous international brands. Now, with the establishment of a 16,700-square-meter factory, the company is poised to produce an impressive 18 million pieces of fabric annually. As highlighted in a statement released by SCZone, a significant portion of this output—half, to be precise—will be earmarked for export, while the remainder will cater to local demand within Egypt.
This venture is expected to generate 500 direct jobs, further propelling the total investment in Qantara West to an impressive $681.5 million. SCZone head Walid Gamal El-Din expressed optimism about the zone’s future, emphasizing efforts to attract more investments in targeted manufacturing sectors and enhance connectivity between industrial hubs and strategic ports along the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed, an economist at the Cairo Institute for Economic Studies, views this collaboration as a testament to the strengthening ties and shared economic interests between Egypt and Turkey. “This project is a strategic win for both countries,” Dr. El-Sayed stated. “For Egypt, it’s a step toward diversifying its industrial base and reducing dependency on imports. For Turkey, it’s an opportunity to expand its influence in the region and tap into the lucrative North African market.”
SCZone’s Walid Gamal El-Din revealed upcoming plans to further develop the infrastructure of Qantara West, aiming to attract high-tech industries and sustainable manufacturing ventures. “We are committed to transforming SCZone into a beacon of industrial innovation and excellence,” Gamal El-Din noted.
As the fabric of this new partnership weaves together, the denim factory in Qantara West is not just about textiles; it’s about crafting a future of economic collaboration and mutual prosperity
