President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the eighth edition of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025) at New Cairo’s Al-Manara International Conference Centre. Under the theme “Building a Secure and Sustainable Energy Future,” this pivotal event, running from February 17 to 19, positions Egypt as a beacon of sustainable energy transformation at the intersection of Africa and the Mediterranean.
With participation from over 47,000 attendees, 2,500 conference delegates, 500 exhibiting companies, and 300 global speakers, EGYPES 2025 is a testament to the country’s growing influence in the energy sector. The event, in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has evolved into a crucial platform for cultivating dialogue and partnerships.
Tri-Nation Gas Initiative: Egypt, Cyprus, and Eni
A highlight of the conference was the signing of a Host Government Agreement (HGA) between Egypt, Cyprus, and Italian energy giant Eni. This landmark deal, inked by Presidents El-Sisi and Nikos Christodoulides, aims to establish a formidable gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. With a focus on the Cronos field, revealed in 2022 to contain over three trillion cubic feet of gas, this collaboration marks a significant stride in transporting Cyprus’ gas to European markets through Egypt’s advanced infrastructure.
Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi, underscored the project’s critical role in enhancing European energy security. Gas from the Cronos field will be processed at Egypt’s Zohr facilities and liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant.
Cyprus’ Aphrodite Gas Field Agreement
In parallel, a separate agreement involving Egypt, Cyprus, Chevron Cyprus, NewMed Energy, and BG Cyprus seeks to commercialize the Aphrodite gas field. This strategic alignment is set to fortify both nations’ energy sectors and support Europe’s energy needs.
Strengthening Ties with Saudi Arabia
Further broadening its strategic alliances, Egypt signed an energy efficiency agreement with Saudi Arabia. Announced by Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, this partnership aims to elevate sustainable energy practices. The unveiling of five Saudi renewable energy projects in Egypt, including a significant wind project, signals a robust commitment to deeper economic ties and investor confidence.
Eni and Apache Expand in Egypt
President El-Sisi’s meetings with Eni’s CEO Claudio Descalzi and Apache Corporation’s CEO John J. Christmann highlighted Egypt’s dedication to expanding its energy sector. Descalzi reaffirmed Eni’s commitment to leveraging Egypt’s potential as a regional energy hub, while Christmann emphasized Apache’s strategic collaborations and the country’s impressive economic growth and infrastructure advancements.
Egypt’s successful drive towards Energy development, diversification & Sustainability has been extremely positive through Egypt’s strategic collaborations and substantial investments that underscore its quest to become a central energy hub. By addressing outstanding debts to foreign energy firms and advancing renewable energy projects, Egypt is steadfast in its commitment to energy security and sustainability.
Experts at EGYPES 2025 highlight the nation’s potential to impact the global gas market significantly. As Egypt continues to bridge its natural gas supply gap and expand its energy capabilities, and with its strategic location and robust infrastructure, Egypt is poised to enhance its role in the regional energy landscape, setting the stage for future growth and partnerships.
