Egyptalum Gears Up for Expansion

Eng. Mohamed Shimi, Minister of the Public Business Sector, embarked on a pivotal visit to the Egyptian Aluminum Company “Egyptalum” in Nag Hammadi today. This visit marked the beginning of a strategic dialogue with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to fostering robust communication with legislative bodies and driving integrated industrial growth.

During his visit, Minister Shimi engaged in comprehensive discussions about the current state and future prospects of Egyptalum. With an eye on increasing production capacities, the meeting explored a myriad of promising projects poised to strengthen the company’s contributions to the national economy. The discussions also emphasized supporting local industry and reducing import dependency by attracting investment and enhancing factory infrastructure.

Accompanied by industry leaders, including Eng. Tarek El-Hadidi and Eng. Mohamed El-Saadawy, the Minister listened attentively to the visions and proposals put forth by the representatives. Dr. Mahmoud Ajour, Executive Managing Director of Egyptalum, also contributed insights into the company’s expansion roadmap.

Minister Shimi expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts between the Ministry and Parliament, underscoring the importance of ongoing coordination to achieve sustainable development. He emphasized that his visit to Egyptalum, a monumental industrial institution, aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategy to revitalize the public business sector, enhance productivity, and drive sustainable growth across various industrial and service sectors.

Highlighting key projects, Minister Shimi announced plans for the rehabilitation of the existing smelter to extend its operational life by 20 years, alongside increasing production capacity by 200,000 tons. Additionally, a new factory is set to add 600,000 tons of capacity, complemented by innovative initiatives like the wire machine, alumina refinery, slag recycling, and the introduction of products such as foil and pharmaceutical packaging discs. These efforts aim to leverage Egyptalum’s capabilities, attract further investments, and expand into new export markets.

Parliament members voiced their strong support for these initiatives, recognizing the vital role of Egypt Aluminum Company in driving economic development. They welcomed the ministry’s endeavors to modernize factories with cutting-edge technology and enhance production capacities.

Concluding his visit, Eng. Mohamed Shimi toured the newly developed company exhibition, showcasing Egyptalum’s rich history and diverse range of aluminum products, from cylinders to precision spare parts. This exhibition not only highlights the company’s legacy but also its future potential in contributing to Egypt’s industrial landscape.
