MEDLOG to Establish Cutting-Edge Dry Port in Egypt’s Industrial Hub

Must read

Egypt is set to enhance its logistics infrastructure with the construction of a state-of-the-art dry port in the industrial 10th of Ramadan City, courtesy of Swiss logistics giant MEDLOG. This venture, secured through a comprehensive agreement with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport, marks a significant step in the country’s ambitions to become a regional transport and trade hub.

The agreement, facilitated by the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports (GALDP), grants MEDLOG—a logistics powerhouse under the MSC Group—a 30-year tenure to finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain the new dry port and logistics center. This development is part of a strategic initiative to integrate Egypt’s industrial zones with vital seaports along the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

With operations spanning over 80 countries, MEDLOG brings its extensive expertise in logistics and supply chain management. The company is recognized for its investment in proprietary logistics assets, including inland platforms, warehouses, and an impressive array of transportation vehicles, ensuring efficient door-to-door solutions.

Egypt’s push towards logistical advancement includes the establishment of 22 dry ports and logistic zones, with plans to expand to 33 ports and seven logistical corridors. These projects aim to position the country as a central hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade in the region.

Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, emphasized the importance of these developments, which include the creation of integrated logistics corridors that will connect key industrial, agricultural, and mining zones with major seaports. This infrastructure will be supported by a network of railways and major road systems designed to improve efficiency and connectivity.

Spanning 250 acres, the 10th of Ramadan dry port and logistics zone will play a pivotal role in Egypt’s logistics network. The site will connect to prominent ports such as Sokhna on the Red Sea and Alexandria on the Mediterranean, enhancing trade routes through the new Robiki/10th of Ramadan/Belbeis railway line.

The dry port is expected to significantly bolster Egypt’s capacity for handling goods, providing modern facilities and streamlined logistics solutions to support the region’s burgeoning industrial activities.

According to logistics experts, the development of such sophisticated infrastructure is crucial for Egypt’s economic growth. “This project represents a leap forward in enhancing Egypt’s logistical capabilities,” noted Dr. Ahmed Zaki, a logistics and supply chain specialist at Cairo University. “By optimizing connectivity between industrial zones and seaports, Egypt can effectively increase its trade volume and attract more international business.”

In an exclusive statement, a source from the Ministry of Transport hinted at future collaborations with European partners to further expand Egypt’s logistics network, potentially involving advanced technologies and green logistics practices.
