In a milestone step to enhance Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, witnessed the signing of a pivotal cooperation protocol. This agreement, established between the Arab Pharmaceutical Ingredients Co.  ( Arab API ) and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, aims to build a versatile factory for pharmaceutical raw materials. This initiative highlights Egypt’s commitment to deepen & localize   the pharmaceutical industry and strengthening its national economy through increased investment in the health sector.
The protocol was signed on behalf of the Arab Pharmaceutical Ingredients Co. (Arab API) by Dr. Ahmed Kilani, Chairman and Managing Director of EIPICO Pharmaceuticals. Representing the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone for Promotion and Investment Affairs was Dr. Mohamed Abdel Gawad Allam, Vice Chairman of the Authority, and Mr. Ahmed Saad, Executive Director of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, signed on behalf of the Economic Zone Investment Company.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, emphasized the factory’s role in achieving self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical raw materials, thereby reducing imports and boosting exports. The $120 million investment aims to position Egypt as a competitive force in African and international markets.
The partnership involves the Arab API taking charge of managing and operating the facility, adhering strictly to environmental laws. Meanwhile, the Suez Canal Economic Zone will provide necessary external maintenance and support, ensuring an attractive investment environment with robust infrastructure.
Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, articulated the project’s potential to transform Egypt into a regional hub for pharmaceuticals. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in essential medicines, bridging the local market’s supply-demand gap.
This new initiative joins the ranks of other successful projects in the economic zone, such as the ATCO Pharma factory and Genavix Egypt, reflecting Egypt’s growing prowess in the pharmaceutical sector.
Major General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan Chairman of UPA and Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi Chairman of EDA praised the partnership’s potential to save costs for the state and enhance the pharmaceutical market regionally and internationally.
Dr. Olfatt Gharab, Chairman of the Arab Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA), also praised the government’s efforts in supporting the health sector and advancing pharmaceutical investments, highlighting international appreciation for deepening such strategic partnerships.
