Egypt Advances Auto Industry with $135 Million MG Manufacturing Plant

Egypt is set to strengthen its status as a key player in the automotive industry with the signing of two significant agreements aimed at establishing an MG car manufacturing plant. This $135 million investment is a collaboration between Al Mansour Automotive Group and China’s SAIC Motor Corporation, focusing on local production and export growth.

The agreements include a technical licensing deal signed by Ankush Arora of MAC for Vehicle Manufacturing and Emin Zao of SAIC Motor. A land allocation contract for the 126,000-square-meter factory in New October City was also finalized. The plant, expected to be operational by Q2 2026, will initially produce 50,000 units annually, with plans to double output later and integrate over 45% local components.

This initiative supports Egypt’s strategy to localize its automotive industry, create over 10,000 jobs, and enhance export potential. Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, emphasized Egypt’s strategic location and skilled workforce as advantages in becoming a regional industrial hub.

The partnership between Al Mansour and SAIC Motor, especially since Al Mansour secured MG’s distribution rights in 2018, is poised to boost local manufacturing and Egypt’s global automotive market presence.
