Eng. Tarek El-Mulla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, stressed that the localization and development of the local manufacturing base for petroleum equipment and supplies is necessary for the Oil and Gas industry especially in light of the global events, successive crises, which directly affected the world’ economy, pointing out that relying on manufacturing petroleum equipment locally assists in reducing imports and rationalizing foreign exchange. This came during the inspection of the workflow in PETROJET’s central workshops for manufacturing static equipment in Katameya.
El-Mulla added that PETROJET is a pioneer in this field, and was able to provide an important aspect of the petroleum sector’s needs of supplies and equipment necessary to implement various projects using the latest modern technologies through its advanced workshops and manufacturing centers, the latest of which, is the new central manufacturing workshops that opened in Assiut Governorate with the aim of increasing manufacturing capabilities and raising the proportions of the local component in new projects for the petroleum sector projects in Assiut.
Some of these Projects are the Zohr gas field development project, the West Delta gas field development project, the nitrogen fertilizer complex project in Ain Sokhna, and the new asphalt complex project at the Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Plant, in addition to many projects, the most important is the project Development of the Western Desert Gas Complex of GASCO, the coking complex project of Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Company, the Al-Hamd station expansion project for the General Petroleum Company, the onshore station expansion project for the Zohr gas field, the Midor Refinery expansion project, the Anopec complex for the production of diesel and high-value petroleum products, and the MDF production plant for medium-density wood panels.
El-Mulla praised the company’s cadres of engineers and technicians and urged them to give more effort to sustain development operations during the coming period and to work on opening new foreign markets to export equipment and supplies, which represents a new source for foreign exchange.
During the tour, the Minister and his companions listened to a presentation by Eng. Walid Lotfy, President of PETROJET, about the integrated plan implemented to develop and raise the efficiency of its manufacturing workshops inside Egypt and one outside Egypt in Iraq, in addition to two manufacturing workshops currently being established in New El Alamein and Tebbin, pointing out that all manufacturing workshops have been qualified and accredited with international quality certificates in the field of static equipment manufacturing (ASME STAMP).
Eng. Lotfy explained that the most important steps implemented to develop and raise the efficiency of its manufacturing workshops began to be implemented at the beginning of 2021, following the visit made by Eng. Tarek El Mulla, to the central workshops in Katameya, and the launch of the start signal for implementing the development plan, where the most important axes were reviewed in the development plan, including the establishment of new workshops covering new geographical areas, the development and raising efficiency of current workshops, the optimal exploitation of production machines and tools, cooperation with specialized international companies, the optimal exploitation of human resources, developing them and raising their efficiency, and reviewing the most important procedures that were implemented to establish the first workshops for manufacturing static equipment in the New Alamein over an area of 85 acres, which aims to serve the sector’s projects in the western region, especially the El Alamein petrochemical complex project, the Dabaa nuclear station, and the sector’s projects in Libya.
Eng. Lotfy added that the total manufacturing work carried out in the central workshops during the period 2021-2023 amounted to 594 million dollars, including integrated manufacturing work for Porsche PETROJET worth 297 million dollars.
Eng. Lotfy reviewed the company’s future plan to develop manufacturing workshops, which include completing the implementation of the six basic axes of the plan, in addition to creating a new axis represented in the manufacture and export of static equipment through coordination with the Algerian company Sonatrach and the Saudi Luberef Company.
