Tarek Amer, CBE Governor, has pointed out that Egypt has not filed an official loan request from the IMF. “Egypt has its own national economic reform programme”, he added. Amer denies the claims mentioned in some press releases that Egypt filed a loan request from the IMF.

Egypt is claimed to have filed a loan request, valued at $5bn, from IMF, according to some press releases.

CBE Governor asserts “In case a programme is sought, Egypt would be eligible for amounts more than double what has been stated by virtue of its shareholding in the IMF.

CBE Governor holds regular conversations with the fund about existing economic situation locally, regionally and globally. “Egypt is moving forward towards its national economic reform programme’s implementation.”
